Old Test Unit

The original test unit was built and tested in 2005-2006.  It is 2 ft square with a 3.5 inch deep “window frame”, and uses a box containing bottles of ice for the cold face and room temperature with a 1.5″ thick “standard” foam sheet on the warm side.  Although very useful for determining relative R-values (Rw-value), the heat entering through the cold side of the frame resulted in high values of R-values, with the error increasing as the R-value increased.  This made the very good R-values appear even better than actual.

The pictures below show the complete unit, and the water bottle cold section.
